Stolen idea?

This isn't even the only game ON THE FRONT PAGE OF NEW GROUNDS that uses this idea of an big world map that you unlock by finding upgrades to accesses new places. Off the top of my head I can count 6 or 7 (edit: oh wait remembered another 2 maybe even 3! so new total of 9 or 10 games) that use this idea. True it must have started somewhere but it's clearly a new style of platformer that we all seem to like and artist like to create. Yet slatting this game for being a rip off of one or another at this point is just redundant and petty.

If you want to talk about the game not adding anything new to this type of game? Go ahead because it does not. The game has no new ideas that I've come across yet but the art style is wonderful and the platforming is smooth enough and challenging in places with out being stupid. In other words it a nicely refined game of this type it does not innovate and it's clearly not the best of it's kind but it's kept me playing and I've enjoyed it a lot so far. The seems to be no real story so far which is a downside as it means the endings, when I get to them, will be no where near as good as they might.

In other words this is a booming new game type that has come up a lot over the last year or so. To complain about it being ripped off is to complain that ever tower defence game stole it's ideas or any other of the countless game types that game makers use as a frame work. Every game will rip off ideas when building it's frame work as that is how design works, nothing is every fully original. There a many reasons for that and no time to get in to them here. Still the point remains that this kind of game has become an established game type and the only way to judge them is to judge how well they do it and if they offer anything new to that game type.

Personally this seems to be at the more shallow and simple end, if you want to see this game type at it's best you may want to check out "endeavor" which you can find right here at newgrounds and was on the front page a few weeks ago. It's vastly better in almost every way... but that does not make this game bad!

Understand now? good.

Ending was disapointing

My little guy was a master of the combat arts and cleared all the dungeons in the land was famous and rich with great temperament... and my results? he'll remember doing a bit of construction work and how good his lessons about combat where and in the end he will become completely unknown. I thought i'd done rather well setting him up for a life of adventure but turns out not.

The rest of the game is addictive and a really cool twist this kind of management rpg. I'd like to have maybe seen more involved combat and stat building and the exploration expanded a bit. There was also a lack of useful loot over all, but he did look rather bad ass by the end so that's always a good thing.

Over all very enjoyable :)

Wonderfully fun game, the only major flaw i've found so far is the fact you can't control your party. It gets rather frustrating when winning a fight can depend on a party member making the right move at the right time... this comes down far to often to luck. Giving the player direct control of the party members would solve this problem and be a bit more interesting over all.

Other than that i'd like to have seen a bit more rpg in it, wondering around the diffrent places but i know thats not what the game is or set out to do i just think that you've got a good combat and loot system and the basics of a good levelling system and it would be nice to see them put to use in the context of amuch more rpgish rpg :P

Promising... but....

Bugged to hell and back. Which is sad really, i like these types of games and this could have been one of the best of its kind but it lets it self down in so many ways. First of all the interface is god awful, clunky annoying and on top of that doesn't work half the time. The buy button is broken and just before i lost 10 troops trying to garrison a province. The combat is kind of interesting and while i've only had the freeze bug with it i just think there not enough control to make it really fun. It seems too random if anything, i just lost 10 or 15 men to kill the last bad guy.

On top of all that nothing is explained well at all, took me a while to realise i had to dig for the book. Which brings me to the campaign which is frankly dumb. Well ok i'm baseing that just on the 4th level but its designed in the most stupid way... 20 turns to find a book that seems to be randomly scattered in over 20 provinces. Since you have to dig your lucky to get 9 provinces dug before the end. I've almost dug in ever province in my games so far, if it is randomly placed then the 20 turn limit makes it almost imposable to finish.

Given that this is a demo, well, its horrid advert for your full game. I wouldn't put money anywhere near it. To many bugs, to little thought in over all game design and to much time spent on pointless eye candy that slows the game down for no real reason.

So, please tell me...

That you uploaded the wrong file... 'cus thats what this game feels like. It feel like you've uploaded somthing half done, one of those tests you export to take a look at how the code is doing just after you've finished the basic base stuff that you could build a game on. This of course would not answer why the hell this ended up on the front page having read a few pages of reviwes there is not one good thing any one has said about this trash. Theres the start of what could be a fun game there, if you could bat while you jumped and balls came in at diffrent hights with diffrent speeds and so on a day or two extra work and this may have ended up being fun instead of a waste of every ones time. If you've not clicked play yet, really, don't bother.

Fun but...

I was a big fan of the first one and when i saw this on the front page i was very very happy but sadly i won't spend anywhere near the time i did with the first game with this one. Don't get me wrong its very fun and i like the game it self a lot and some of the new featuers are really very cool and i could proably waste a few hours with this game if it wasn't for a few things. Firstly the cost of equiment gose up far to fast and over all i'd like to see less gold anyway so you have a much quicker idea of the value of things. Secondly the game is amamzing random, extreamly so to the point i've got a feeling its not really like this in the full game. I beat the first torument on my 2nd go but go killed by the first guy in the 3rd. With no ablity to save it is just pointles becuse frankly with the game being so random half the time if i die it will not even be my falt. I could forgive it a little more for the no save if when i died it was for a mistake i made one that i could go back and fix... There is no reasion for the game to be this randomly hard unless you want to take the bad viwe of people that this demo vershion or even just the whole is made much harder and random so that people will pay to get the saves. With out saves this game is nothing but amamzing frutaing and since its really not worth the price your asking... well... it was fun for 15 munits

good

but the bounce back to the start, is always used to make it "harder" but i don't understand, becuse you allreayd know all the right answers it just get annoing to have to click throw them all again...

Often its a way to cover up what is actaly quite a short quiz, so all i can say, is don't send people back to the start... and add more qustions

Heaven57 responds:

Nah, I don't mess around with people and make them believe this is like a 50 question quiz. I'll change the 'send back' thing though.

kick ass

This strangly reminds me of some of the band pratices i've had... cepted this was much simpler lol :) good stuff

Grate game

The only 'down' side to this game is liveing in the UK you can have sex at 16... so non of them are actaly jail bait for me heh :)
